HARARE, (CAJ News) – ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe addressed the nation last Sunday night but remained defiant about announcing his resignation.

Instead, he called the nation to learn to forgive, implement tolerance and call for unity among Zimbabweans. ZANU PF Central Committee had earlier during the day recalled Mugabe before expelling his wife – Grace. This follows the expusion of many cabinet ministers, who majority have since escaped the country’s borders fearing arrest.

Mugabe appeared on national Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) television in the presence of army generals.

Mugabe acknowledged the action taken by Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) to correct the divisions saying the were precipitated by the wrong messages conveyed between the ruling Zanu PF and government.

“Era of victimisation, arbitrary decisions must end. We must learn to forgive in a comradely Zimbabwean,” said Mugabe.

Elsewhere across the city, a church led by controversial Pastor Evan Mawarire prayed for the nation to forgive Mugabe and his wife.

The church anticipated Mugabe to resign hence preaching the message of forgiveness, but Mugabe showed defiance by refusing to announce resignation.
