Zimbabwe’s bogus jobs creation claim

HARARE, (CAJ News) – DESPITE indications on the contrary, the Zimbabwean government claims to have created two million jobs for its citizens since re-election three years ago.
Deputy President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, made the startling claim in Kwekwe in the Midlands Province, during a tour of a mining operation owned by a South African company.
The South African firm, Moti Holdings, has created 860 jobs in Zimbabwe through its Africa Chrome Fields.
Mnangagwa claimed his government had surpassed that.
“Look at the jobs created across the industries and those created through command agriculture, they are more than two million jobs and we will be creating more,” said President Robert Mugabe’s deputy.
Mugabe’s government, in power since 1980, was re-elected in 2013 following a campaign premised on job creation.
It pledged over 2 million jobs but these have come to noughty as companies continue shutting down. This has forced millions of Zimbabweans to flee poverty and unemployment mostly to neighbouring South Africa.
Mugabe, who recently claimed Zimbabwe was only second-best to South Africa in terms of economic advancement, is to stand for re-election in 2018.
In the forthcoming watershed elections for 2018, Mugabe will be 98 years old.
