BREAKING: Mugabe has resigned

by DANAI MARUMBA and MARCUS MUSHONGAÂ
HARARE, (CAJ News) – IT’S official, Zimbabwe and oldest president on the planet Robert Mugabe has resigned.
The news was greeted with wild celebrations, joy, ululation, dancing and singing nationwide.
There were cars hooting in the streets of Harare Central Business District (CBD) while thousands other residents blocked highways in the capital in celebration.
“Finally, democracy has come! This is a fresh start for Zimbabwe,” Anesuishe Muungwa, an air time vendor told CAJ News in Harare.
The resignation barely came a few hours the Zanu PF Central Committee alongside members of parliament (MPs) from both Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and his ruling Zanu PF joined hands to impeach him.
“Credit must go to our defence forces’ commander Constantino Chiwenga, Air Marshall Perence Shiri, Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) boss Paradzayi Zimondi and war veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa. Had it not been for these armed general’s coup, otherwise we could have not have lost the moment of glory,” Mildred Mudekunye of Sunningdale in Harare said.
The message, when it filtered was immediately received with wild celebrations, joy, dancing, singing and shouting.
“Chiwenga anogona, Chiwenga anogona, Chiwenga anogona,” meaning army general Chiwenga is able.
On the other hand, University of Zimbabwe (UZ) students had on Monday outrightly boycotted writing examinations demanding Mugabe to step aside.
“We expected it (Mugabe’s resignation)! It is the principle of the party people come and go,” said War Veterans spokesman Douglas Mahiya said.
“When we saw Mugabe creating a dynasty, the bringing about of Grace Mugabe into the politics, we saw Mugabe had lost direction,”
“I’m excited, I have been selling air time for five years, but today, it has happened. Zuma (President Jacob Zuma), if you want, give Mugabe your asylum seeker’s permit,” said Brighton Mafundikwa of Highfield in Harare.
Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Francis Mudenda confirmed receiving Mugabe’s resignation letter.
