by MUNYARADZI GURAJENA / MARCUS MUSHONGA
HARARE, (CAJ News) – BUSINESSMAN and an alleged accomplice have appeared in court for suspected murder of a woman for ritual purposes.
Businessman Robert Tichareva (aged 46) and Isaac Mashonga (20) are facing charges of beheading Dadirai Mashonga (40) in Magunje in Mashonaland West province, some 250km north of Harare.
The deceased is the Mashonga’s sister.
It is alleged Tichareva promised to pay Mashonga $4 000 (about R54 000) for his sister’s head, which aimed to use in rituals to boost his business.
Mashonga allegedly accepted the offer before chopping off his sibling’s head with kitchen knife and an axe while she slept.
The deceased’s mother discovered the murder upon arrival from church the following morning.
She alerted her husband before the matter was reported to police.
The murder was traced to Mashonga who allegedly was spotted with blood-stained clothes.
Upon his arrest, he disclosed conniving with the local businessmen.
Ritual murders are rife in Zimbabwe which is going through tough economic challenges, leading to the closure of businesses.
