MASVINGO, (CAJ News) – TANDA Tavaruva, the Masvingo business mogul has been declared a liberation war hero.
Tavaruva, 84, popularly known as Mhunga, died on Monday from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension at his Rhodene home in Masvingo.
Mhunga, a farmer who also owned Mhunga Bus Services, was honoured for his contributions towards the liberation of Zimbabwe before and after Independence in 1980, having also played a key role in the creation of employment in the city of the ancient province.
Tavaruva founded popular former Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Masvingo United which donned the colours of Spanish giants Barcelona.
The team is now in the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Eastern Region Division One league while they also had a second tier side Gutu Leopards Football Club.
ZIFA, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and several Masvingo business colleagues have sent messages of condolences to the Tavaruva family.
He will be buried at the Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre on a date to be announced.
