Neighbours South Africa, Zimbabwe boost bilateral ties

from SAVIOUS KWINIKA in Pretoria, South Africa
PRETORIA, (CAJ News) – SOUTH Africa and neighbouring Zimbabwe have signed five strategic agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral relations.
The agreements are aimed at increasing economic cooperation between the two countries.
South African President, Jacob Zuma, and his Zimbabwe counterpart, Robert Mugabe, sealed the partnerships in the former’s capital Pretoria on Tuesday.
They cemented the Bi-National Commission (BNC), which will see both countries address economic partnership, including energy, movement of goods and several others.
The agreements focus on areas of cross-border co-ordination on frequency spectrum energy, environment, information communication technologies as well as sports and recreation.
Mugabe and Zuma welcomed the signing of the agreement and MoU.
They emphasised a need to fully implement these agreements and finalise the outstanding agreements and MoUs to improve and strengthen political
and economic relations between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Mugabe wished Zuma’s African National Congress (ANC) well ahead of its divisive elective conference set for December.
ANC is scheduled to choose Zuma’s successor as head of Africa’s oldest liberation movement.
“We wish the ANC every success at the congress so that it can continue into the future, breed and strengthened,” Mugabe said.
The veteran leader (93) said ANC contributed significantly in liberating the African continent.
