Several dead as Ghanaians, Nigerians clash

from EMEKA OKONKWO in Abuja, Nigeria
ABUJA, (CAJ News) – FIVE Nigerians have reportedly been killed in Ghana in what has been reported as retaliation to the killing of a local man.
This follows skirmishes in the Sowutoun Area of Ga Municipality of Greater Accra region.
The Nigerians were allegedly targeted following the death of a Ghanaian allegedly murdered by a Nigerian national, purportedly in self defense.
The Nigerian High Commission in Accra reported prior to the incident, the Nigerian lodged a complaint at the police station about the now-deceased Ghanaian, regarding a theft at his residence.
While the investigations were ongoing, the Ghanaian had reportedly crept into the Nigerian’s apartment and attacked him for reporting the case to the police.
However, the Nigerian overpowered the now-deceased Ghanaian and stabbed him on the head.
This has a riot and mobilisation of Ghanaians resulting in destruction of properties and vehicles belonging to Nigerians.
The Accra regional police said it had brought the situation under control.
Jane Adams, spokesperson of the Nigeria ministry of foreign affairs, dismissed reports any Nigerians had been killed.
“Nigerians are therefore encouraged to be law abiding and should desist from actions that would tarnish the image of the country and continue to
cooperate with the Ghanaian authorities,” she said.
