CHIREDZI, (CAJ News) – THE Lowveld premiership side, Triangle Football Club clinched the Chibuku Super Cup following their emphatic 2-0 victory over defending champions Harare City in a thrilling encounter at Gibbo Stadium in Triangle on Saturday.
Goals in the second half by Richard Kawondera (59th) and Phineas Bhamusi (89th) ensured the Taurai Mangwiro coached side emerged victorious.
The conquest also guaranteed Triangle FC of participation in next year’s African Confederation of Football (CAF) Confederation Cup where they will rub shoulders with the who-is-whos of African football.
As that was not enough, Triangle forward Bhamusi was voted man of the match to put icing on the cake for the Lowveld premiership side.
The Triangle Limited (Pvt) Ltd bankrolled side made history by becoming the first Lowveld side to represent the country at continental level when former premier soccer league rivals – Hippo Valley FC from Hippo Valley Estates could only participate in the local premiership without representing the country at international level.
For winning the Chibuku trophy, Triangle FC pocketed $75,000.
