Zambian family perish in Cape Town accident

CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – A Zambian family of four, including a toddler, has perished in a fatal road accident in Cape Town.

The family’s car was involved in a head-on collision with one of two racing vehicles.

The deceased have been identified as Dr Carol Nalavwe Nyimbili (aged 31) who died together with her children, Racheal (6) and Miguel Angelo Munsendeka (1).

Her partner, Louise Musendeka (37), also died.

Western Cape Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa, said the accident happened in the Central Business District as one of the racing vehicles lost control and hit the family car.

It eventually caught fire.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Emmanuel Mwamba, expressed shock and grief at the loss.

He said the embassy and the Zambian community in South Africa received the news with deep sorrow and sadness.

Mwamba will facilitate for the repatriation of the bodies to Zambia once modalities are concluded.

Zambian Embassy spokeswoman, Naomi Nyawali, said bodies of the deceased had since been deposited in the Salt River Mortuary, while the mission awaited further communication with the surviving family members in Zambia.
