ZIFA boss Chiyangwa in messy divorce claim

by DANAI MWARUMBA
HARARE, (CAJ News) – IN what is arguably among the biggest divorce claims in the country’s history, the estranged wife for Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President, Phillip Chiyangwa, is demanding monthly maintenance of $83 000 (about R996 000).
Elizabeth Chiyangwa (maiden surname Juma) wants the money paid over ten years.
She is also demanding 85 percent of Chiyangwa’s wealth, which is estimated at $230 million ((about R2.7 billion).
Her legal team Zigomo Legal Practitioners, has slapped the divorce papers on Chiyangwa, who is represented by Kantor and Immerman Legal Practitioners.
According to Zimbabwean law, in the event of a divorce, the couple share property, savings and estates equally. The couple were married in 1986.
Mrs Chiyangwa said the relationship with her estranged husband, who is also president of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA), had irretrievably broken down.
In her court papers, she said she had previously sought divorce in 2013 but the marriage termination could not succeed.
The wealthy Chiyawanga is believed to be a nephew of deposed Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, but such reports have been dismissed.
