RUSTENBURG, (CAJ News) – ZIMBABWE Warriors lifted the Coasafa Castle Cup 5th time following 3-1 victory over Zambia in the battle of the Zambezi final at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rusteburg on Sunday.
Goals from Knox Mtizwa (22), Talent Chawapiwa (39) and Ocean Mushure (67) were enough to see Zimbabwe crowned 5th time Cosafa Castle Cup kings, making the Warriors the football power-house of southern African region.
Zambia pulled one back through Lubinda Mundia in the 39th minute.
Prior to the final, three nations comprising host South Africa, Zambia and champions Zimbabwe had won the trophy four times each, but it is the Warriors of Zimbabwe who emerged the big brother of southern African football with their emphatic victory.
Zambia, who piled relentless pressure in the second half fizzled out when hit by two quick second half goals by Zimbabwe to demoralise their northern neighbours.
Sunday’s victory also confirmed Zimbabwe Warriors coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa as the best regional coach to ever won the tournament three times.
Zimbabwe captain Ovidy Karuru emerged the top goalscorer of the tournament with six goals while countryman Mtizwa was second best with five goals.
